Today, I have spent time using the draft for my magazine I have created previously to  began to create my final magazine piece. I have used the layout from my draft by re-saving the magazine and beginning to add and change the layout of the magazine with the text and images I have decided to use. So far I have created the front cover page, yet I feel I can still go back and improve the piece further. I have now moved on to the contents page which will be a double page. I have used Indesign and Photoshop to make sure the images I use are professional and consistent. I have made sure all the text is similar and so keeping to the housing style.

Within media so far I have decided to start my contact sheet with all the images I have taken, in the studio as well as on location. These images will be used for the content, double page spread and froncover. I have also decided to go back over my work and improve certain peices to make sure I am alway relating it back to the audience and genre I have chosen.

Within a free i have decided to go over my blog and make improvemtns to my work to make sure my planning and research is as detailed as possible. This means that i have decided to improve my institution research to make sure i properly understand what company would help me most reach my target audience. I decided to include screen shots from the magazines website and include more information about these companies.

Magazine Draft

I have created a draft plan of my music magazine I wish to create using Indesign. i cretaed the plan on Indesign due to this being the programe i will use when making my real magazine, it has helped me understand the programe alot more before my final magazine as i am able to get the best out of the programe. I have used text boxes and coloured boxes to highlight where I wish to have text and images on the page. I have made a plan for the cover page, contents page and double page spread.

The layout of my magazine represents the target audience as there is a balance of images to text meaning the audience is of an older age between 16 and 25 that are interested in the artist themselves and facts rather than staged images and gossip which is like the magazines aimed at young teenage girls. This is my draft magazine ide and so could change when i create my magazine due to the images i chose to use as well as the fonts i wish to use.

Front Cover
The image i placed on the front cover is a picture i collected off google which i felt would be perfect from my cover. I chose to use a female due to it attracting my audience of males as they will find her attractive, making them want to pick the magazine up. I have also decided to use a black and white picture as i felt it will present my magazine as a classic which is known for its information being part of the uses and gratifications theory. Moreover, i have used a few sell lines within the page yt i have not over crowded it as i felt it needs to have a classy look due to the audience being of high classes themselves; A B C1. The image i use will relate to the large cover line at the bottom of the page which will be based on the main feature article which will be another reason people will want to read the magazine as they are interested in the artist.

The colours i have decided to use when creating my plan is red and gold with black and white. I felt these colours were applicable as they have positive connotations of wealth, power and passion which is what i want the readers to feel when they own the magazine. I have created the masthead and decided to call my magazine R'n'R because it is clear and enforces the genre straight away as well as why people read the magazine being in their free time to relax. I chose to have the masthgead to be in a red as it catches peoples attention as well as being seen as a non gender specific colour attracting my main audience of men but also my secondary audince of females, both between the ages of 16 and 25.

When looking at this front cover i have made i have decided that the articles shall not be surrounding the models face, this is because it could potentially take away the importance of her within the magazine. In order to do this i shall use the bottom half of the page to use for pull quotes due to the masthead also cutting off the top of her head leaving her eyes framed like. Moreover, I have decided that the font i have used for the masthead is inappropriate due to connoting a younger audience and making the magazine seem less formal, meaning i wont be able to attract my target audience as they will be focusing on how the magazine is presented and that it is seen as mature compared to other music magazines.   

Contents Page
When plaaning my contents page i understood that the purpose of the page was to inform readers 9uses and gratification theory) about where to find certain articles, yet i also understood the page still needed to be interesting with the information being broken down and split up to make sure it was easy to read. When planning the contents page i decided to include a collage of pictures in the center with the text placed around it meaning the text is broken up and easy to read as well as the page looking interesting with no gaps.

Moreover, i highlighted the features i will include within my being regulars, exclusives and other parts of the magazine. I have decided to use the typical convention of a contents page and lay the text out in columns. I have also decided to use the housing style and the colours of red and gold with black and white to make sure that the magazine is consistent throughout. THe images i will include within the contents page will be of the main cover model as well as other images that relate to the articals within the magazine. I will use a similar style of front to the cover oage text to make sure i am as consitent trhoughtout the magazine as possible. The fonts i could use would be impact as is is easy to read with a handwritting font to show the magazine as classy and makes the reader feel that they have had a person touch to their magazine, having a personal relationship (uses and gratification theory).

Doube Page Spread    
I have created a plan for my double page spread which has included many pages due to my article being a detailed interview with my artist. The article that i shall be including will be detailed and relevant to the music and the artist rather than the gossip. the language within the artilce shall be informal to allow the readers to understand the article as well as want to read the article. This is because within my article i wish to include a feature page with a main image and an important quote which would relate to the audience. This will allow me to break down the text as well as make the pages seem more interesting not just informative. The text i will use within the double page spread will be simple, easy to read text such as Ariel. This is so the  magazine is easy to reach the the appropriate age group. The double page spread i have planned begins with a slight feature page having a few images of the artist along with an introduction paragraph and title. From here i will create a double page of text with a few images to break the text down and not overwhelm the reader. I have decided half way through the article tp place the feature page. Moreover, the pictures i have planned to use will be live as well as studio images to make sure i am able to portray the magazine in different lights as well as have a range of images to allow the magazine to seem as professional as possible. This is a draft i made and so can change depending on if i need to add more text to the article or the types of images i will use. To continue with the housing style i have included two bars at the top and bottom of the page to frame the page and make sure i can keep the colours consistent throughtout. The text size for my double page spread will be size 10 due to this being a typical size used within my genre's magazines. I will use a range of fonts within these pages with my pull quotes as well as headings to make sure the page looks interesting and eye catching not just relying on the images to draw the target audience in. I have decided to use a handwritting font with the front cover to allow the magazine to use the uses and gratification theory and feel personal to each reader; the magazine as well as a personal relationship with the artist.

Within media i have completed my magazine plans on Indesign, giving myself a rough idea of how i want my magazine to be layed out. This will help me in making my final magazine as i understand the programe alot better as well as can make my magazine as professional as possible as i have a planned layout. This isnt confirmed so it can change when i start adding images and text but this is my second plan of my magazine.

Today is my media shoot day therefore I have prepared my model with what i want her to wear as well as get her to sign the form to agree to allow me to take images. I have got a helper to record the behind the scenes of the photoshoot while i take the images for my cover page and double page spread. I may also take ocation shots and so move the model to the places i need images to make my magazine seem interesting and diverse.

I have created another video to explain the results of the survey i created. I have written about the results and how i will use these to reach my target audience and attract them to my magazine. For homework i have created the sketches of my magazine as will upload these to my blog. Within my media lessons i will now create my plan on Indesign. Furthermore in last lesson i have taken some images of bands and artists which will star in my contents page.

This is a video with screenshots of the survey I created previously using SurveyMonkey. This will help me when knowing what to include in my magazine, when to issue the magazine and what the most populat genre is etc. This will help me get an idea of what my target audince want to see and if i am aiming more towards mainstream rather than individualists.

I have also uploaded some image ideas as well which i feel would enable me to create a successful pop rock magazine. This part was a powerpoint with images and pictures to make the blog seem interesting.

I have completed my article draft which I feel is professional and relates to my genre clearly. I have used the typical idiolect which means my audince can feel more involved with the magazine and that it is more personal to them. I will need to collect feedback from my article and add in information that needs to be added. I have also completed my location ideas in a video which has highlighted some places I could potentially take my images to make the double page spread seem interesting.

Article Draft

This is my first draft of my article which I feel follows the codes and conventions of a typical pop rock magazine like Rolling stone. My article will be included within my magazine and will be the information part from the uses and gratification theory. I will get feedback on my article and then decide whether or not I need to change or add certain aspects in to make the article be more appealing. This isn't the final article meaning I will be adding in and changing parts to make the interveiw seem as realistic as possible.

So far within the last few days i have completed the majority of my image ideas and have explained why I felt these pictures were successful and good to recreate. Furthermore, within my last media lesson i have taken pictures of specific locations which I feel i could use within my magazine to make it seem more interesting and professional. I will write about these images breifly and upload them to my blog.

Equipment

This is a short description of what equipment i will be using when taking my pictures. It explains my  choice of camera as well as the studio equpiment when i take my studio shots for my front cover. The studio equipment such as the lighting I may not use within my outside location shots yet I may use the lighting for my inside location shots such as the stage to make sure i am able to get the best possible lighting. This will ensure my pictures look as professional as possible.

I have completed my promotional presentation and now i am focusing on my picture planning for the photoshoot in the next few weeks. I need to complete some image ideas as well as find the models i wish to use. I have completed the promotional methods which i found will help me when thinking about what information i qill include which will allow the readers to contact and interact with the magazine.

This is an explination of what promotional methods I have decided to use to male sure i reach out to my target audience and make the information I include in my magazine accessable. Furthermore, i have decided to use the typical methods of social networking sites as well as traditional methods and have explained my reasons why.

Within a media lesson i was able to complete my new media presentation which explains what types of media I woulc use to help my magazine. This part of the research was easy to complete due to knowing alot about the social netoworking sites. I have also completed a contents page ideas prezi which highlights a rough idea of how i wish to layout and create my magazine contents page as well as what i want to include in this page to make it informative yet intertesting. This part i found quick and easy as i already have a rough idea of how i wish my magazine should be layed out.

New Media

I have made a short presentation describing the new media that is available to the public. It will allow me different ways in which I could promote my magazine and how it would be appropriate for my target audience due to them being invloved in social networking and smart phones. The ones that I have chosen are clear within my presentation, but I chose these because of the fact that both twitter and facebook are easily accessible to my target audience of young adults/teenagers as well as smart phones being a quick way to send information back and forth. I think that this piece of information will be really helpful when I go to design certain parts of my magazine such as the cover page when including a face, twitter and website. Furthermore it will aid in subscription as I can include logos such as facebook, twitter and instagram which are all relate able and would refer back to the research that I have carried out through this presentation.

Contents Ideas

I have created a short plan of my ideas I wish to include in my contents page. I had a rough idea of what I wanted to have on there such as the layout and headings I want to include to make my magazine relate and portray the types of readers that will buy the magazine. I have noted down the features I would want to include in a prezi document such as reveiws and up and coming, which i have realised magazine in the rock pop genre include in their mgazines hence inspiring me. This will allow my magazine to look professional and successful.

So far in media i have uploaded many peices of work to my blog and have further added my double page spread analysis, props and costumes ideas etc. This is because i am coming nearer to the date of my photoshoot and want to beprepared so i have a rough idea of what pictures i want to take so i can have more time putting the magzine together.

Props and Costumes

This mood board of the props and clothes that I have created to give me an idea of how i want my models to be portrayed within my pop rock magazine. These are just a few images of what i could potentially use or recreate within my images . I want it to have an element of seriousness to my magazine that is why i have used mostly dark colours with a hint of red to show passion towards the music. Furthermore, i have chosen to use dark colours in the clothing to make sure that the genre of rock is portrayed clearly as well as being the typical clothing that my readers would wear. The clothes and accessories included within this mood board are the colours and style that I would want my model to wear for my magazine when i take my studio shots. It is important for me to think of how I want my model to look in images to make sureit portrays the genre clearly and relates to the audience that would want to buy the magazine, so that I can ensure I take the pictures right the first time round, allowing myself to move and work quicker. This relates to my audiences due to the target audience being mainstream as well as individuals therefore this would be a typical clothing they would wear that they are able to buy themselves and so creating a relationship with the audience through what they wear.

I used different language techniques to draw readers in and short phrases which give a little detail to make people interested. So far within media I have uploaded my colour connotations which will allow me to make a reasonable decision about the colours I will want to use. I have also uploaded alot of work which I have completed over the last week during half term being my proposal, audience profile and institution. these peices of work will help me decide what instiution I will want to publish my magazine as well as what audience I am mostly aiming towards to mnake sure my magazine is as clear as possible and reaches out to the audience.

Colour Connotations

I have created a presentation of colour connotations that i could potentially use as I felt it is a good way for me to decide on what colours would best present my magazine and represent the genre clearly. When making this presentation I came to the conclusion that different colours have different connotations, meaning that different moods can be highlighted through the uses of different colours as well as different shades of the colour hagving just as much impact. I need to chose my colours carefully because I didn't want to make a mistake and mislead readers with the genre. This presentation will be very helpful when planning my magazine as  I could look back and see what my own personal opinion was on each colour, and what I think they represent with different emotions.

The audience that I will focus on for my magazine will be both genders but mainly towards the male gender, having the age range of 16 to 25 years old. My magazine will appeal to those who enjoy pop rock music with well known artists rather than up and coming as it means the audience will be able to relate a lot easier to the cover models and they will be able to identify them easily. The artists used will be popular with the male generation at the moment between the ages of 16 to 25, reinforcing the fact that I want my magazine to be a appealing mainly the male gender. I will make sure that my magazine is promoted for the age range on places where they are most likely to see it such as Facebook, YouTube and other well known websites as well as posters when out in clothes shops like Topshop/man. I will create a Facebook page as well as a twitter account to allow readers to interact with the magazine and express their ideas and thoughts to help improve the magazine as well as win competitions. The social class will be the usual class for a music magazine which is BC1. The price for my magazine will be no higher than £4.00 allowing the teenagers and students to afford to purchase the magazine.
Even though it is a mainly male magazine I wish to appeal to both genders by including a wide range of bands and artists who the public like and are well known being men and women that are not objectified, meaning the readers aren’t offended. I will get all the information that I need to create my magazine from the questionnaire that I have created and make sure it will afford everything they wish to see and expect.

I used a table as i felt it was an easy way to present my work including all the relevant information. The table gives me a good idea of which institutions distribute certain magazines and allows me to understand what instituation would most suit my magazine.

Within the last week of media I have completed the analysis of the three double page spread which I set myself for homework during the week. I need to upload this to my blog and move on to the instution research which I have further set myself for homework. I have looked through my blog, and have come to the conclusion that I need to add more representations to my contents page analysis to make sure i can get the best possible mark. 

 

Within a media lesson I have completed a the existing mastheads which have helped me with the choosing of my own magazine name. I collected a range or examples that portrayed a range of different genres and presented this on powerpoint. I have now uploaded it to my blog using slideshare on to the research lable. I have also completed the creation of my survey and placed the link on my blog to allow people within the school to fill in the survey so i can collect the results and place them on my blog. When collecting these results it will help me to understand my audience alot better and see what they expect within a magazine.

As part of my research to aid me when creating my magazine I have created a survey using survey monkey to allow me to understand the general market. When creating the survey I included questions such as 'How much are you willing to pay for a magazine' and 'Whats your favourite magazine genre?'. I included these types of questions to make sure I am able to make the best possible magazine that attract my chosen target audience and allow me to include parts to a magazine that they wish to see. When making the magazine I used all closed questions that were multiple choice as it will allow me to understand groups better including the majority or what people are wanting to see in the magazine. For the last few weeks of media I have began my research and planning into the creation of my own magazine.I have began  the tasks of codes and conventions of a typical music magazine on powerpoint then scribd my work and uplaoding to my blog.Within the presentation i have used example magazines and explained in depth what the codes and conventions are. When researching the codes and conventions it has allowed me to understand a typical music magazine and what i need to include in my own magazine to make it as successful as possible. This part of the research i found easy due to reading up on the codes and conventions as well as having a class discussion about what would be included in certain magazines and why.

Once i had completed the codes and conventions i thought it be a good idea to begin with the anaylis of the front cover and contents page for homework, giving myself two weeks to complete it on top of my class work which i have dedicated to the planning side of my magainze.I used microsoft word to present my work as i felt it should be formal and neat being easy to read. Due to completeing the codes and conventions of a music magazine first i also found this opart of the coarsework easy and completed it within the two weeks i set myself, giving myself a chance to begin a different peice of work that will get me closer to my final magazine.  

I have also completed a mood board for homework and have explained the use of some pictures i have used within the work, which have allowed me to express the type of reader that would like my magazine and why, presenting what their likes and interests are and how they will be included or represnted within my magaizne. This has aided in the beginging of my proposal with the explination of my chosen target audience.This was extremly easy as i had a rough idea of the typical reader that would use my magazine. I used my own likes and Rolling Stone magazine to aid me in making the mood board, basing the reader on myself and a typical Rolling Stone reader.

On top of this within lesson i have began my proposal which i am comleting for next week and uploading to my blog, as well as i have used Prezi to arrange and explain my magazine name ideas. I used prezi to make my blog seem more interesting as well as it be a fun and easy way to present all the name ideas i accumilated. Within the name ideas i used a simple list with the name ideas, with some extended using the fonts as well to allow me to picture the masthead alot clearer. This means when it comes to the making of my magazine i will have a clear idea of what i want it to look like. Ihave explained some of my choices and the reasonging behind my final masthead decision. I enjoyed this task and finsihed it within a reasonable time limite in lesson and it has also allowed me to make my blog more interesting.

I have now set myself he work of my proposal to finish by next week and upload to my blog and the double page anaylsis pf three magazines.
